What to Check When Buying a Used Forklift
A used forklift can be a sound investment — the key is knowing what to inspect before you buy:
- Service history — a truck with documented maintenance is a safer bet than one without records.
- Thorough examination / LOLER documentation — lifting equipment needs a valid report of thorough examination.
- Hour meter — like a car's mileage, hours indicate how much working life the truck has done.
- Mast, chains and forks — check for wear, damage and repairs.
- Tyres — worn or chunked tyres affect stability and are a cost to factor in.
- Battery age and condition (electric models) — batteries are a significant replacement cost.
- Leaks — hydraulic or transmission leaks point to bigger bills ahead.
